Strange bed fellows

The puppy says "WTF???"

Gosh, wasn't it odd to see Al Gore and Bob Barr on the same page with regard to Bush's spying on Americans? I thought the time-space continuum would be torn asunder.

But when are the middle-class Republicans wake up about this guy? I work with a few people who still make excuses for him. Who think he has done so much for the country...why do we liberals keep bashing him??
What the hell does this guy have to do to make these people see
they are getting screwed?

Freedom is on the March!

So friend and I went to the DC march in September and it was awesome. So why was it not covered by the media, she asks, knowing full well the answer. How much longer will the right wing thugs control the media and the message?

Actually, I am beginning to understand that it is not a political ideology that runs this country but the corporations. Gas prices are sky high and with them profits for the oil companies. I'm no math wiz, but if it they are just passing along the higher cost of crude, how can their profits be up?

I wish I had more time in the day to read and investigate and write more in this blog that nobody reads.

It may not help anyone else, but it helps me sort out my thoughts.

Cindy Sheehan

As the mother of a 21-year old, I can't imagine the heartache Cindy Sheehan is going through. And to save other mothers that same heartache she puts herself on the line in protest.

What does the chickenhawk in chief do? He ignores her. What do the right wing pundits do? They call her names, call her a traitor, say her sacrifice is unworthy because she does not have the same opinion of the war that they do.

How could we have fallen this far in America? "Freedom" is a parrotted word with no real meaning. Freedom to wave a flag, to think like they do...don't speak your mind, don't disagree, or you are unAmerican.

Tomorrow night there will be vigils for Cindy Sheehan. There is a concert in downtown Albany tomorrow, too. How can I go and have a good time knowing Cindy Sheehan almost 2,000 other mothers have lost their children to this hell on earth called Iraq?

What is wrong with our youth??

Last night, after seeing the Philadelphia orchestra at SPAC, my friend and I went into Saratoga for a drink and a bit of the night life.

Who knew Saratoga on the weekend was a time for those with hot motorcycles to show off their bikes? And there were some impressive machines there, too. Now don't get me wrong, I am not a biker. But I am very interested in what I refer to as "subcultures" and the people in them. Those groups of hard-core enthusiasts of things most people know very little about. I have a friend in Atlanta, GA who is into live gaming. Once a month she meets up with other people and they enter a fantasy world of vampires...But I digress.

So here were are in Toga town, walking around, when we see a rather large crowd of young people around a huge white Cadillac SUV...The "Esplanade" I believe it is called. The thing is all tweaked out, chrome rims with the bits that rotate backwards when the vehicle is in motion, doors that open by pulling up and forward, wide screen DVD and more. So friend and I gawk a bit too, then I notice the tiny car behind it. Nobody is paying the least bit of attention to it.

A freak' Ferrari Testarossa. How can you NOT gawk at a Ferrari Testarossa, for cryin' out loud??? But that was the case...the big gas guzzling freak of a vehicle got all the attention from this crowd, the Thorobred went unnoticed.

What the hell is worng with people these days? Have they no appreciation for the truely finer things in life?

Music in Albany NY the last week in July 2005

Back in the day I wanted to sing back up for Leon Russell. That is how much I liked his music. But his appearance in Albany last week left much to be desired. Oh, yeah, his voice was the same unique mix of honky tonk and blues and he hammered the piano as he did in the past. But there was no passion in his music. He just didn't seem to want to be there. No "hi Albany, how ya' doin'?" or "I wrote this song for Joe Cocker back in the day." Nothing. Nada. Play a song, pause, play another song. No engaging with the fans...

Then there was the shroud that covered his faux piano. I'm not sure what the hell was under it...a box with what looked like a VCR and tons of wires....but I couldn't see anything that resembled a piano there.

Guess you can't go home again. I think I will have to be content with wanting to be Bonnie Raitt.

Then there was the ill-fated trip to SPAC to see Tom Petty. Who knew it would be wall to wall kids (drunk at that) who wanted to be at THE summer concert, according to Metroland. Or Black Crows fans going to see them for the fist time in more than five years.

We bailed and drank vodka tonics at a friends house - listening to petty - thinking about the old days.

Fuckin' kids...fuckin' Black Crows.
